Last night the Wolf Pack won their second straight game. The club pulled out a 4-1 victory against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Chris Nell is credited with the win in net, stopping 30 of 31 shots. Cole Schneider, Dan DeSalvo, Steven Fogarty, and Vinni Lettieri recorded goals. Hartford is now one game below .500.
The Wolf Pack came into the first in strong fashion. The club managed to register 16 shots on net in the first twenty. The Pack were shooting away and gave the Penguins difficulties throughout the period. The Penguins did generate chances, especially when the Packs defense failed. Chris Nell was playing sharp in the contest. At 16:14, the Pack strike first as Cole Schneider register his 15th goal of the season to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. Simon Denis records the lone assist. Then at 16:48, Dan DeSalvo converted on a strong opportunity to extend the lead to 2-0. Gabriel Fontaine and Chris Bigras recorded the assists. After twenty, the Pack were playing well against a tough Wilkes-Barre/Scranton club. Shots favor the Pack 16-7.
The second period was a swing and a challenge for Hartford as the roles were reversed. The Penguins dominated the frame. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton woke up and was pouring it over Hartford. Chris Nell locked down his fort and protected Hartford’s lead. Chance after chance, Chris Nell was standing on his head. The Packs defense struggled once again and the offense was not existent. The second period was scoreless. Shots favor the Penguins 18-3 in the second. Shots after two favored the Penguins 25-19.
The third period became interesting, then the Pack one upped the Penguins. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored their first goal of the night 4:32 into the third to make it a one goal game, 2-1 Hartford. The Penguins had brief surges throughout the third. The Pack did as well and were more dominant in the offensive chances. After good back and forth action, the Pack extended their lead to 3-1 at 14:49. Steven Fogarty converted on a great opportunity. The goal was unassisted. Then moments later at 15:43, Vinni Lettieri had a nice shot to make it 4-1. The rest of the third was scoreless. The Pack defeated the Penguins in style. Shots were tied apiece at 31.
Last night was a strong win for the club. Chris Nell and the offense carried the club. To defeat the Penguins is never an easy task. Credit to the entire club for the win.
The Pack finish the three in three this afternoon at 5 pm as Hartford host the Rochester Americans.
