Congrats to Alexandar Georgiev for his first shutout in the American Hockey League! He shutout the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 1-0. The young goalie stops all 43 shots. Vince Pedrie gives Hartford the win with the lone goal in overtime. The Pack have won two straight.
The Penguins were all over Hartford in the first twenty minutes. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton registered 21 shots on net, opposed to Hartford’s three. Alexandar Georgiev was busy in net and kept cool. The Pack had to wake up and were lucky the Penguins were unable to convert on opportunities. After the first period, no score.
Hartford had the better jump in the second. The club began to be aggressive and generate solid opportunities. The Pack woke up and the Penguins was not dominant in the period. Both goalies were performing well in net. The Pack fought hard to battle back from a shooting disadvantage. Shots favor the Penguins 13-11 in the period, and 34-14 after two.
The third was a bit quieter. Both clubs register seven shots on goal. The defensive game was raised. The Pack was faring well, especially short-handed. The Penguins hit post and that was as close as they could get. The Pack had a few crash the net opportunities and was close. Shots favor the Penguins 41-21 after three periods.
Overtime was tense. The Penguins were pressuring early on. The Pack were careful and attempting to create a strong play. Eventually the magic worked. At 2:25, Vince Pedrie walked in the offensive zone and converted on a solid opportunity to end the game. Cole Schneider and Filip Chytil recorded the assists. Shots favor the Penguins 43-22.
Sunday’s game showed that its quality over quantity. The Penguins could have won in the first. Alexandar Georgiev was strong in net and was impressive. Without him, the game could have turned a different direction. The win was a character game. Hartford showed plenty of character. Well done boys. The winning streak goes to two. Both games won was in overtime.
Hartford goes on the road to take on the Utica Comets on Wednesday, January 24th. Game time is at 7:00 pm.
