Let the good times keep rolling! On Friday evening, the Wolf Pack earned a 4-3 shootout victory against the Syracuse Crunch. Alexandar Georgiev is credited with the win as he stopped 43 of 46 shots. In the shootout, the goalie stop two of three Syracuse shooters. Adam Tambellini, Filip Chytil, and Ryan Gropp scored for Hartford. Adam Tambellini and Ryan Gropp also scored in the shootout. The game was Hartford’s ninth straight game with points.
Both clubs created chances throughout the first as both goalies were busy. Opportunities were continual in the first with solid action on both ends of the ice. At 10:23, Adam Tambellini converted on nifty chance to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. The goal was unassisted. The rest of the first was scoreless. The game had a fast pace to it and the Pack were doing good. Shots favor the Crunch 18-12.
The second became a seesaw battle between the clubs. Hartford was never down and out. Syracuse tied the game at one, 1:04 in. Filip Chytil scored ten seconds later at 1:14 with a solid shot to give Hartford a 2-1 lead. Cole Schneider recorded the lone assist. The game became tighter and defensive. Both clubs raised their games and the chances were limited. At 7:03, Ryan Gropp converted on a solid chance to extend the lead to 3-1. Filip Chytil and Ryan Sproul recorded assists. Then late in the frame at 19:43 on the power play, the Crunch added another goal to make the game 3-2. Rest of the frame was scoreless. Shots favor Syracuse 26-15.
The Crunch had a third period push. Syracuse tackled 15 shots on goal, opposed to Hartford’s five. The Crunch was working the defense well and Alexandar Georgiev. The Pack had brief chances as well. Alexandar Georgiev was standing on his head protecting the lead. At the eight minute mark, the Crunch tied the game at three. Hartford had to buckle down. Hartford escaped the period with a point. The Crunch were buzzing and wanted to grab a lead. Shots favor Syracuse 41-20.
Overtime was dominant for the Crunch as well. Syracuse had a five shots to one advantage. Alexandar Georgiev kept the club in the game. Overtime solved nothing.
Syracuse shot first of each round. Alexandar Georgiev stopped the first two shooters. The third shooter for the Crunch scored. Hartford scored on rounds one and three. Adam Tambellini gave Hartford a 1-0 lead, then Ryan Gropp ended the shootout with his tally. Hartford won the shootout 2-1 and the game 4-3.
Hartford was never down or out in the game. The first twenty were good. However, the rest of the game was cutting it close. The group relied on Alexandar Georgiev. He is playing well. The Pack must help the prospect out though. The game could have turned for the worse.
