Last Sunday the Wolf Pack pulled a 6-4 victory against the Rochester Americans.  The Pack swept the weekend, and snapped a six game losing skid to win three straight.  Marek Mazanec is credited with the win in net as he stopped 22 of 26 shots.  Chris Bigras, Vinni Lettieri (2), Hubert Labrie, Brenden Kotyk, and Dan Catenacci scored.

Game Recap

The first was sluggish for Hartford.  The Pack were chasing the puck, outplayed, and could not find their legs.  Despite out shooting Rochester 13-6, the Americans capitalized early on.  The first goal occurs 1:52 in for the Americans.  Then again at 5:02.  The Pack were in a deficit just like that.  At 9:34, Chris Brigras long shot got through everyone to give Hartford life.  He converted on an opportunity to cut the deficit to one.  Dan DeSalvo and Gabriel Fontaine recorded the assists.  The rest of the first was scoreless.  The Pack woke up a bit, but could be playing better.

The second was a strong showing for Hartford.  The Pack woke up, found their legs and began to roll.  The club began to produce quality shots and found good transition.  The Pack were looking better.  Unfortunately, Rochester converted on another opportunity to give the Americans a 3-1 lead.  Down the stretch, beginning at 12:10 Hartford turned the tables around.  Vinni Lettieri had a nice shot to make the deficit one again.  Brenden Kotyk and John Albert recorded the assists.  Then at 13:31, Hartford tied the game as Hubert Labrie converted from a slap shot opportunity.  Simon Denis and Filip Chytil recorded the assists.  As Hartford had the momentum, they also had luck.  At 19:16, Brenden Kotyk recorded his first goal with Hartford.  He shot the puck from the center ice red line as Rochester’s goalie was not paying attention.  Suddenly, the puck went in and grabbed their first lead of the night, 4-3.  Shots favor the Americans 10-9 in the second.  Through two periods, shots favor Hartford 22-16.

The Americans were pressuring back and staying in the game.  The third was more defensive with good action on both ends of the ice.  At 11:02, Rochester tied the game at four.  The Pack began to crash the net and look for second-hand opportunities.  They did, which worked.  At 16:29, Dan Catenacci off the rebound converts on an opportunity to give Hartford a 5-4 lead.  Cole Schneider and Chris Bigras recorded the assists.  At 19:07 Vinni Lettieri scored on the empty net to extend the lead, 6-4.  Shots favor Hartford 29-26 after three.

Final Thoughts

It was a nice win to see after a sluggish start.  The Pack are finding ways to roll after a lengthy losing streak.  However, this could be too late as playoffs may be too far out to reach.

The Pack are back at it on Saturday to host the Hershey Bears at 3:00 pm.
