Tonight the Wolf Pack played their first game back from the All-Star break. Unfortunately, the club looked rusty. Hartford dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime against the Providence Bruins. The winning streak is snapped at five. However, the point streak continue to six games. The Pack did not lose ground in the standings as well. Ryan Sproul in his first game back from injury notched the lone goal for the club. Alexandar Georgiev soaks the loss in net, stopping 48 of 50 shots. The home at home shifts to Hartford tomorrow night. Same time, same team.
The first was scoreless. The Wolf Pack were rusty and Providence was all over the group. Alexandar Georgiev kept Hartford in the game. Eventually the Pack woke up late in the first and applied chances on net. The Bruins were buzzing from puck drop, but were unable to cause damage. Shots favor Providence 14-7.
The second is similar to the first. However, scoring took place. The Bruins peppered Alexandar Georgiev with 17 shots on goal in the second. The Pack eventually created their own chances. Not as much as the Bruins though. At 8:19, Ryan Sproul converted on a solid opportunity to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. Adam Tambellini and Cristoval Nieves recorded the assists. Late in the frame at 17:30, the Bruins notched a power play goal to tie the game at two. The group was undisciplined and it finally bit them. Shots favor the Bruins 31-15.
The third was scoreless. The Bruins continued to dominate in opportunities and puck management. The Pack continued to muddle along. The game was going into overtime with both clubs exhausted. Shots favored Providence 42-21.
Late in overtime the Bruins ended the game. At 4:35 on the power play, Providence tapped in a goal to win 2-1. The Bruins dominated in overtime, with a 8-1 margin in shots. The final game total is 50-21 Bruins.
The Wolf Pack being undisciplined costed them a win. In addition, the factor of rust after days of no practice caught up to the club. They should get back in the grove soon. I am not worried. The point streak continues and that is critical entering the month of February.
Hartford takes on the Providence Bruins once again tomorrow night at the XL Center. Game time is at 7:00 pm.
