Last Saturday afternoon the Wolf Pack dropped a 2-1 decision against the Hershey Bears in Hartford. Cole Schneider scored the lone goal in the contest. Both Hershey goals were scored by Madison Bowey. Marek Mazanec takes the loss in net as he stopped 20 of 22 shots.
The first period was scoreless. The game had a quiet start and lasted the entire contest. Both clubs were keeping the play basic with not much action happening. Both clubs swapped chances. There was limited hits and not many forced turnovers. A quiet first led to no damage. Shots favor Hartford 7-3.
The second period had a rise in action as both clubs swapped goals. The Bears strike first after they were buzzing in the second. They generated strong chances, which Marek Mazanec stopped. Unfortunately one slid past him at 6:30. The Pack did not take long to answer back at 8:23. Cole Schneider converted on a partial breakaway to tie the game at one. Vinni Lettieri and Chris Bigras recorded the assists. The rest of the frame was scoreless as the action was calm once again. Both clubs swapped chances with not much action or hitting. Shots favor Hartford 21-15.
The third was similar to the first two periods. The Bears got the go ahead goal at 12:49. A wrist shot beats Marek Mazanec, top shelf. The Pack woke up a bit with chances, but blew the missed opportunities with incomplete passes on the odd man advantage or shooting wide. Vinni Lettieri had a breakaway and missed. The game was one of those nights where there was not much action and when the opportunity arises, Hartford was unable to finish. The Pack were unable to come back as the Bears took the contest, 2-1. Shots favor Hartford 27-22 after three.
The game was tough to swallow. Hartford had opportunities and they come up short. With the end of the season near, the games will soon not matter unfortunately as Hartford is to deep down in the playoff race to climb back up.
