The Wolf Pack earned themselves a home win tonight as they Defeated the Springfield Thunderbirds by the final of 4-3! Chris Nell started his third straight in net stopping 27 of 30 shots. He earned his first win as a pro. Chris Brown, Marek Hrivik, Matt Carey, and Nicklas Jensen recorded goals. The Pack play their last home game tomorrow night as they take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
The first twenty had good back and forth action with Springfield having the upper edge. The scoring started early, at 5:19 as the Thunderbirds strike first to make it 1-0. Then shortly after Hartford pressured they tied the game at one at 7:59. Chris Brown capitalized on a Thunderbirds turnover with an unassisted tally. After both clubs with stellar chances, Springfield regained the lead at 13:12 as they converted on a breakaway to make it 2-1 Thunderbirds. The rest of the frame was scoreless. Shots were tied apiece at 12.
The second favored Hartford, but the score remained tied after two periods of play. Hartford converted 1:51 in the frame on the power play as Marek Hrivik had a great laser beam shot to tie the game at two. Vince Pedrie and Adam Tambellini recorded the assists. The Pack buzzed a bit. Springfield began to generate chances as well but were unable to execute plays. At 8:11 the Pack converted on a tick tac toe play to get a lead of 3-2. Matt Carey buried a great feed from Marek Hrivik. Vince Pedrie recorded the secondary assist. Then a few minutes later at 10:13 Springfield crashed the net and tied the game at three. It was a bit chippy for the rest of the frame. Both clubs continued to trade chances. Shots favored Hartford 21-18.
The third was close, but Hartford pulled it off at the end. Majority of the frame was scoreless. Both clubs had close calls. Chris Nell had terrific saves when needed along with Springfield’s goalie. Both clubs hit post or missed. There was defensive breakdowns for both sides. Then at 17:39, Nicklas Jensen was clutch as he had a great shot to give Hartford a 4-3 lead. Chris Brown and John Gilmour recorded assists. The rest of the frame was defensive as Hartford kept it simple. Great finish to the game! Shots favored Springfield 30-26.
Clutch ending for sure. The game was close the entire night. Both clubs were on par with each other. Chris Nell had a good outing despite a rough start to the game. He finished with a win. All is good.
Tomorrow night the Pack take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7 pm.
