The Pack suffered their fourth straight loss tonight in Springfield as they dropped a 5-2 decision against the Thunderbirds.  The group built themselves a 2-0 lead but blew it.  They were out shot and struggled majority of the night.  The flood gates blew open in the third and when it did, Hartford was outplayed.  The Pack only had one chance opposed to Springfield’s 15 in the third alone.  Steven Fogarty and Adam Tambellini recorded tallies.  Jeff Malcolm stopped 40 of 45 shots in net to take in the loss.

Game Recap

The first twenty favored Springfield but the Pack managed to weather out the storm and be on top.  Jeff Malcolm was busy from puck drop and came up huge early on.  Eventually Hartford generated chances.  The Thunderbirds got close on scoring early.  Majority of the frame was scoreless up until the last-minute.  At 19:06 Steven Fogarty gave Hartford a 1-0 lead on a five hole shot, which he buried.  Michael Joly and Ryan Graves recorded the assists.  After twenty, all was good.  Despite being out shot, the group was up.  Shots favored Springfield 16-9.

The second started well, but ended not so great.  The Pack built themselves up a two goal lead.  At 5:38 Adam Tambellini converted on a quick shot to extend the lead to 2-0.  Steven Fogarty and Michael Joly recorded the assists.  Then Springfield began to pour it on.  Jeff Malcolm was busy, but kept the group in the game.  At 14:10 the Thunderbirds got on board to make it 2-1.  Then a short time later at 15:57, tied at two.  The momentum shifted away from Hartford and they struggled.  They had many defensive mistakes and finally costed them.  In addition Springfield was putting the pressure on majority of the game thus far.  The rest of the frame was scoreless.  After forty, it was tied at two.  Shots favored Springfield 30-14.

The third was rough as Hartford stopped playing and Springfield had three more goals as they notched five straight against the Wolf Pack.  Hartford had one shot on net the entire third.  Thirty-six seconds in and the Thunderbirds grabbed a 3-2 lead.  Then at 2:02, 4-2.  The wheels of the bus has fallen.  The Pack struggled to get any puck control and Springfield was all over them.  At 8:17 it became 5-2 Thunderbirds.  The Pack gave in and Jeff Malcolm did his best.  After sixty, another loss.  Shots favored Springfield 45-15.

Final Thoughts

The third period was one of the worst this season.  They did not respond to Springfield’s go ahead goal or play with urgency.  There has been issues with the team and nothing has been fixed the entire season.  The struggles continue and they will be eliminated from playoff contention shortly.  They will be the first team in the league to do so.
