Earlier today the Wolf Pack dropped a 5-2 decision against the Providence Bruins. Magnus Hellberg stopped 34 of 39 shots in the outing. Taylor Beck and Michael Joly recorded tallies. Hartford went one for three this weekend at home.
The first twenty was sloppy for both clubs. Providence had the upper advantage as they generated better chances. Both clubs were fatigued with playing games from earlier in the weekend. However the Wolf Pack grabbed a 1-0 lead 2:43 in the game as Taylor Beck tapped it in. Steven Fogarty recorded the lone assist. It was quiet with not much action going on the ice. Magnus Hellberg stood to the challenges as Providence had frequent odd man rushes and nifty chances. The score remained unchanged up until 15:10 as the Bruins converted on the power play to tie it at one. The rest of the frame was scoreless. Shots favored Providence 12-5.
The second began the dominance by the Bruins as Hartford was out played once again. It began at 2:33 as a quick shot beat Magnus Hellberg to make it 2-1 Providence. Then at 2:39, 3-1 Bruins. The defense was slow reacting to the play and was not ready. Hartford was not ready to play as well. They tapered off as the game went on. The Bruins had stellar chances from breakaways to odd man rushes to even while short-handed. The score remained unchanged for a good chunk of the second. Hartford had continual power plays but could not convert on any. The Bruins had good puck movement and was effective at shooting. At 19:26 a short-handed tally extended the Bruins lead to 4-1. Nothing was going right for Hartford. After forty, it was not looking good. Shots favored Providence 32-15.
The third was slow and quiet for both clubs as they both ran out of gas. There was back and forth action with a few hits. There was simple puck movement and turnovers between both. The players were fatigued and kept it simple. Providence was holding the lead well against Hartford. Then at 10:32 on the power play the Pack made it 5-2 as Michael Joly had a nice shot cut into the deficit. Michael Paliotta and Philip McRae recorded the assists. The rest of the frame was scoreless. After all said and done another loss. Shots favored Providence 39-23.
It was the third game in three nights. The Pack was not doing much and they seemed to give up early on. The Bruins had too many chances, but luckily did not convert on majority. The Pack at least broke their losing streak on Saturday against Bridgeport. The home stretch of the season is here.
The Pack return to action on Friday night as they take on the Hershey Bears at 7:15 pm.
