The Wolf Pack losing streak continued tonight as they fell by the final of 6-4 against the Hershey Bears. Hartford now lost seven straight. They were down by four early on but attempted to come back. Mackenzie Skapski gets the loss in net stopping 19 of 23 shots before getting pulled. He played 34:06. Jeff Malcolm played the rest of the game stopping 13 of 14 shots in 25:32. Ryan Graves, Taylor Beck, Matt Carey, and Cristoval Nieves recorded goals. The Pack finish the six game road-trip on Tuesday night in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The first twenty showed dominance by Hershey. The Pack struggled defensively and was unable to do much in the offense zone. The Bears were pouring it on giving Hartford hard times. At 7:50 the Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead. They continued to buzz. At 14:51 on the power play Hershey extended the lead to 2-0. Mackenzie Skapski was busy in net. The rest of the frame was scoreless. The defense tried to adjust but nothing was working. After the first frame ended, shots favored Hershey 11-4.
The second frame showed resistance by Hartford, but the Bears were still ahead. Early on Hershey continued to pour it on. At 7:13 the Bears extended their lead to 3-0. Then they had a short buzz, which they made it 4-0 at 14:06. Hartford was out of the game. However, they generated chances. They were getting close. Eventually it paid off late in the frame at 16:57. Ryan Graves on the power play converted on a solid opportunity to cut the deficit to three, 4-1. Then on the power play once again at 17:36, it was a two goal game as Taylor Beck tapped it home to make it 4-2. Marek Hrivik and Ryan Graves recorded the assists. The rest of the frame was scoreless. Shots favored Hershey 26-12.
The third got interesting as Hartford nearly tied the game but fell short. The first half of the frame was scoreless. Then it became interesting in the final ten. At 11:15 Hershey extended their lead on the power play to make it 5-2. Hartford got the goal back at 14:51 as Matt Carey converted on a solid shot. The assists were credited to Marek Hrivik and Taylor Beck. Then Hartford struck once again at 15:33 as Cristoval Nieves converted on the breakaway to make it 5-4 Hershey. Taylor Beck and Dan Catenacci recorded the assists. Hartford had a few other chances. At 18:49 the Bears got the empty net goal to seal the deal to make it 6-4 Hershey. Shots favored the Bears 38-19.
The start was not great for Hartford. They attempted a comeback but fell short. They were outplayed early on and had too big of a hole. The losing continues. They have yet won on the road during their six game road-trip. The final stop is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which will be a test. They have a few days to rest.
The last game of the road-trip is on Tuesday night as they take on the Penguins. Game time is at 7:05 pm.
