Tonight the Wolf Pack dropped a 4-3 decision against the Albany Devils.  Chris Nell debuted in his first pro game in net stopping 26 of 30 shots.  Nicklas Jensen, Matt Carey, and Taylor Beck recorded tallies.  The Pack had chances to tie it but were unable to.

Game Recap

The first twenty was even.  Not much action was going on.  The Devils grabbed a 1-0 lead at 4:41.  Both clubs generated chances and Hartford was slow to start, but they picked up their legs.  At 17:46 Nicklas Jensen converted on a solid opportunity to tie the game at one.  Marek Hrivik and Michael Paliotta recorded the assists.  Shots favored Albany 8-5.

The second began the downfall for Hartford.  Both teams had penalties and power plays which was not a factor until this frame.  At 7:38 the Devils capitalized on a defensive breakdown to grab a 2-1 lead as Hartford gave up a short-handed goal.  The Devils had a few more chances afterwards.  Then the Pack began to shoot on and had quality chances.  They were unable to solve Albany’s goalie early on.  At 19:21 the Devils extended their lead to 3-1 on their power play.  After forty, Hartford was down by two.  Shots favored Hartford 20-16.

The third was interesting but Hartford was unable to tie the game, but were close.  Both clubs swapped chances.  Chris Nell was tested and did well when the Devils surged.  The Pack began to generate similar chances, especially crashing the crease a bit.  At 7:26 Matt Carey cut the deficit to one, 3-2 Albany as a five-hole shot got through.  Philip McRae recorded the lone assist.  Then a short time later Hartford took a penalty and it bit them.  The Devils extended their lead to 4-2 on the power play.  Then a few minutes later at 11:34 the Pack began to fight back.  Taylor Beck had a power play goal to make it 4-3.  Marek Hrivik and Nicklas Jensen recorded the assist.  The rest of the game was scoreless.  Hartford tried to generate chances and convert but fell short.  The Devils kept it simple on defense and gave the Pack a hard time entering the zone.  After all said and done the Pack fell 4-3 in a close game.  Shots favored Hartford 33-30.

Final Thoughts

The slow start did not help the club.  Giving up two power play goals plus a short-handed goal did not help their cause.  However they did well in attempting to come back.  They got closer than I thought.

The Pack return to action tomorrow afternoon in Providence for a 3:05 pm game.
