The playoff possibilities become lower and lower for the Wolf Pack.  Tonight the group lost their fifth straight game, losing 4-3 against Charlotte.  The Pack had built a two goal lead then blew it.  The lack of discipline cost them another two points.  Chris Nell stops 19 of 23 shots in net.  Dan Catenacci and Cole Schneider (2) recorded goals for Hartford.  The Pack are now 11 points out of a playoff spot with 14 games remaining.

Game Recap

The first twenty was good enough for Hartford.  The Pack built themselves a two goal lead early on.  The first goal came at 6:15 as Dan Catenacci converted on a good shot to give Hartford a 1-0 lead.  Matt Beleskey and Steven Fogarty recorded the assists.  The group had good momentum going.  At 14:57 on the power play, Cole Schneider had a breakaway and converted on the opportunity.  Ryan Sproul and Chris Nell recorded the assists.  Then the Checkers earned a late goal at 16:43 to cut Hartford’s lead on the power play.  Shots favor the Checkers 10-6.

The second was defensive.  The Checkers scored the lone goal in the frame, 31 seconds in on the power play.  The rest of the frame was scoreless.  Both clubs were not giving an inch and made the chances difficult to generate.  The game was played close.  Both clubs had limited chances in the frame.  Shots favor Charlotte 15-12.

The third was rough as the Checkers scored two straight goals after Hartford regained the lead.  At 5:42, Cole Schneider scored another goal to give Hartford a 3-2 lead.  The goal was unassisted.  Then moments later at 9:02, the Checkers tied the game at three.  The rest of the frame was tightly contested.  There was little offense generated for both clubs.  At 13:31, the Checkers retook the lead, 4-3.  Hartford had limited time to answer back and were unable to.  That was game.  Shots favor the Checkers 23-17.

Final Thoughts

The young group gets into struggling streaks, similar to this losing streak.  The group is still young and is still learning.  Regardless of the season’s outcome, this was a fun season to watch.

The boys get back at it tomorrow against Charlotte at 6pm.
