On Saturday evening, the Wolf Pack pulled out a 2-1 victory against the Providence Bruins at home in front of 9,021! Chris Nell is credited with the win in net, stopping 21 of 22 shots. Lias Andersson and Cristoval Nieves recorded tallies for Hartford. The Pack bounced back from Friday’s game against Hershey.
The first period was scoreless. Both clubs exchanged opportunities. The Pack came out fast and tried to grab an early lead. The Bruins goalie was standing tall while the Pack’s defense was holding well when the Bruins surged. Shots after the first favor the Pack 9-5.
Hartford scored both of their goals in the second frame. The game was even. Both goalies were playing well and there was little error for mistakes. At 10:32, Lias Andersson crashed the net and was rewarded. Brandon Smith recorded the lone assist. At 13:59, the Pack extended their lead to two with a good shot. Ryan Sproul and Scott Kosmachuk recorded the assists as this was a power play goal. The rest of the frame was scoreless. There was good continual back and forth action. Shots favor Hartford 18-15.
The third became interesting as both clubs buckled down on defense. At 7:38, the Bruins cut their deficit to one. The Pack kept it simple and skated out the remaining time with two points. The Bruins pressured in the late stages and was unable to tie the game. Chris Nell had strong saves. Shots favor Hartford 24-22 after three periods. Wolf Pack win 2-1!
The game was a well-rounded effort by the group. The defense did their job, along with the offense and Chris Nell. The two points were good to collect to keep up in the playoff race.
