It has been so long since I’ve had a moment to sit down and write. Being a teacher and nanny to a really awesome 5 year old makes my weeks just seem to fly by!
While I have been incredibly quiet, that does not mean I have not been glued to my television, as often as possible, to catch as much of each game as possible. The season so far has been one big roller coaster ride with many ups and lots of downs.
We are officially in the playoff push mode. With Rick Nash and Henrik Lundqvist back from injury, we need them to come up big, NOW. While Nash does a whole lot for this team, we really need to him to find the back of the net, and fast. Lundqvist needs to find his top game going forward in these final few weeks of the regular season. We don’t want to see him get scored on as much as he did this in past games against Detroit Redwings, Pittsburg Penguins and San José Sharks. He was practically the only Blueshirt who showed up Saturday in San José, and he did not deserve to lose.
While it was pretty perfect timing for our two big names to be back, it was not great timing to lose Dylan McIlrath. A guy who I think has proved himself all season long. He found his groove with the team and his size and ability to play defense and forward (although, I prefer him as defense) definitely helps. Call me crazy, but guys like Chris Kreider need to either step up their game in all aspects including heart or he needs to sit on the bench. While many of you dislike Tanner Glass, and in some instances it is understandable because he is not your lead scorer or point leader but he is your gritty, 4th liner. He is certainly not afraid to hit, or check someone. He is not afraid to stand up for his teammates and be the guy that drops his gloves. I think he adds a lot to this game and the team.
Guys, like Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello continue to produce consistently. Brassard, being our top goal scorer has 25 goals, and just continues to push and Zuccarello, our player with the most points with 53 points. J.T. Miller is another guy, I am happy to have on our side. He has matured and come a long way since his sloppy mistakes last season, however, I am not saying he is near perfect this season either.
Our Blueshirts need to really start showing up to these games. The whole league is in a tight run for playoff spots and we cannot afford sloppy losses. We need to play with our abilities and heart for the whole 60 minutes. Showing up for only 20 minutes of each game will not cut it. As awful as these last few losses were; against Detroit on Saturday, March 12, 2016, the Penguins on Sunday, March 13, 2016 and San José on Saturday, March 19, 2016 hopefully it will be an eye opener. I am not even considering the overtime loss in Los Angeles on Thursday a huge problem because at least we got a point. But from here on out, I really think we need more than a point.
Tonight March, 21, 2016, the New York Rangers are home from their west coast stint and take on the Florida Panthers at Madison Square Garden at 7pm. Let’s hope for a good game and two points.
