I am sad to report that left-wing; Tanner Glass was placed on waivers, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 by the New York Rangers. Yesterday, October 21, 2015, Glass cleared waivers and is fully expected to report to the AHL affiliate in Hartford. I am aware that many New York Rangers fans; are not fans of Glass. I am also aware that our roster spots are tight and space is a major issue.

Personally, I am disappointed to see him go. I think he has that “tough guy” presence on the ice that every NHL team needs. He is the teammate that has every other teammate’s back. I am not saying that the rest of the team does not have each other’s backs, however, Tanner Glass is the one that usually takes care of the dirty work, like we saw last season. Glass led the team in penalty minutes with 98 and was second in hits with 213.

He may not be a huge goal scorer and he may have only gotten his first goal of the 2014-2015 season, at the end of the year, however, I still think he is a value to the lineup.  Having Glass in Hartford means if the New York Rangers needed him, he is only a call away. Whether it be, if one of the New York Ranger starting players gets hurt, or he is given the chance to prove himself again. He is also a good guy to have in the lineup during playoffs and although that is a ways away, it will be here before you know it.

Last season when the Rangers waived Ryan Malone, he played with the Wolf Pack for a while then decided to retire and left the team during the season. Hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen again this season with Glass. It would be a really big loss for the team, both on the ice and in the dressing room. With all that being said, I wish Tanner Glass all the best, no matter where he ends up. I think he will be an asset to any lineup where he finds a place.
