Well, here we are in 2015! The end of 2014 was certainly an exciting time for our New York Rangers as they won nine out of their last ten games. With the team finally beginning to really gel, after what seemed so be a somewhat slow and rocky start to the season. We couldn’t find our groove, but I’m really hopeful in saying, I think we may have found it!
We absolutely have some key players to thank. Henrik Lundqvist is near the top of the list. He always seems to heat up around December and that seems to ring true for this season as well. Lundqvist will be starting the new year with 17 wins and a save percentage of .913%.
Kevin Klein, I have to say, could be one of the best trades in New York Rangers history. He was acquired last January for Michael Del Zotto, and he had a great second half of the season with the Blueshirts. This season, he is on fire, to say the least. He has far surpassed many expectations. He has a career high of seven goals currently and we still have more than half the season to go. I am very interested in seeing how he continues to do because I am sure he will be nothing less than great.
Another guy, that as per the usual has begun to found his groove in December is Mats Zuccarello. He is becoming the player we all know and love again. He’s seeing opportunities before anyone else sees them and is getting the puck to where it needs to be. As he is doing this he is creating many scoring opportunities, bringing his assists up to 13 to round out 2014.
And of course there is Rick Nash. He has finally started to become the player we all had hoped would show up when he was acquired in a 2012 off-season trade. He is starting off the New Year with 23 goals and 13 assists. I hope he has not peaked this season and continues to remain successful and a contributing member of the Blueshirts.
Lastly, there are guys like J.T. Miller who has found his game and seems to be fighting hard for a line-up spot. He has played in 15 games and has five goals and one assist. Derick Brassard has had a great start as well. He has nine goals with 19 assists. He has definitely been a quiet and necessary contributor to our success.
I am hopeful that 2015 will continue to be hot for the New York Rangers. We take on the Buffalo Sabres tonight, January 4, 2015 at 7pm at Madison Square Garden. Let’s get this year off to a good start and “W” in the win column. To our readers, have a happy and healthy New Year and as always “Let’s Go Rangers!”
