The Rangers agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Petr Zamorsky. Zamorsky, 21, tallied 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points, along with 80 penalty minutes, in 44 games this past season with HC Zlin of the Czech Extraliga. The 6’0, 190 pound Zamorsky established career-highs in both assists and points this season. In 14 playoff games this past season, Zamorsky potted four goals and five assists for nine points, along with a plus-eight rating while helping HC Zlin win the Czech Extraliga Championship. He set playoff career-highs in goals, assists, and points during the playoffs. Zamorsky led all defensemen in the league in points and tied for first among all skaters in the league in plus/minus rating in the playoffs.

In 118 career games with Zlin, he had 16 goals and 20 assists as well as 144 penalty minutes. At the World Championships this year he had three assists and 12 penalty minutes in 10 games. It is also important to point out Petr Zamorsky is a right-handed defenseman. Both Anton Stralman and Rafael Diaz are right-handed defensemen, however they’re pending unrestricted free agents this offseason. It appears that Zamorsky will contend for a spot with the New York Rangers in training camp but it’s likely he will start in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack.
