Post Season Assessment:

IN the first round of the playoffs Hagelin seemed nervous and easily rattled. He took several bad penalties, and the referees assessed him a few incorrectly. As the rounds progressed, Hagelin settled down and got to work intelligently. He finished second in goals for the post season. He was one goal behind Martin St. Louis.

Regular Season Assessment:

Hagelin used his speed to his advantage and played a solid game. Once the lines became more cohesive, Hagelin showed how his speed was useful on break away chances and puck races. His speed allowed him to sneak the puck past numerous goal tenders throughout the season. Hagelin posted his first career hat trick this year. Often overshadowed but Chris Kreider, Hagelin is a speedy skater, strong on his feet and nearly impossible to beat in a foot race. His smaller frame, allows Hagelin to avoid most hits.

Personal Reactions:

Overall, I think Hagelin is a valuable part of the team. His speed allows him to stretch the ice for the Rangers. Hagelin has a unique way of seeing the game and putting himself in a position to capitalize whenever possible. His contract is modest and he earns his money honestly. Hagelin isn’t the flashy goal scorer, but he tallies his goals just the same. Most fans forget that Hagelin only has three years of NHL experience at this point. Hagelin plays a smart game but needs to remember to avoid bad penalties in the post season. His biggest redeeming quality is his ability to shut down opponents on the penalty kill when paired with Brian Boyle.
