Post Season Assessment:

Mats Zuccarello had an outstanding playoff performance. He was by far one of the best and most consistent players throughout the entire playoff run. It seems as though he exceeded most expectations of him. He did have a bit of a dry spell during the last five or six games, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t contributing in other ways. He was highly effective on the third line with Derick Brassard and Benoit Pouliot.

Regular Season Stats:

Games Played: 77

Goals: 19

Assists: 40

PIM: 32

Hits: 116

Blocks: 41

TOI: 17:08 average per game

Regular Season Assessment:

Throughout the regular season, Zuccarello was a superstar. He registered 59 points; one of the highest point numbers recorded on the New York Rangers this season. He may be a small guy but he certainly does not play that way. He offers speed and his ability to see plays before opponents are able to anticipate them. During the regular season, he again was highly effective. His line with Brassard and Pouliot just meshed well together. Zuccarello and his line-mates work hard every shift they had.

Personal Reactions:

Overall, I think Zuccarello is an asset to this team if they want to make a Stanley Cup run again in the future. He is a guy that has the potential to be like Martin St. Louis and with St. Louis there to guide Zuccarello, I believe we haven’t seen anything yet. This season was a jumping off platform for Zuccarello to show his potential and I think it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a 30 goals per season type of guy.
