Post Season Assessment:

Brian Boyle was a star on the penalty kill throughout the playoff series. He is a big guy and you saw that he was willing to stand up and really protect his teammates throughout the post season. He could have used his body more to check the opponent but he still was a huge contributor to the team. He was very effective on his special teams and in the face off circle; where he had one of the top win percentages in the league. With line-up adjustments, Boyle alternated between the wing and center on the fourth line.

Regular Season Stats:

Games Played: 82

Goals: 7

Assists: 13

PIM: 56

Hits: 154

Blocks: 54

TOI: 12:46 average per game

Regular Season Assessment:

Like the post season Boyle had a strong presence on the ice during the penalty kill and centering the fourth line. He sometimes didn’t use his big body as much as he could have. This season was by far the strongest of Boyle’s career when it came to contributing to the game, not necessarily speaking about goal scoring. Again like during the playoffs, he was highly effective throughout the regular season.

Personal Reactions:

Overall, Brian Boyle is an asset to this team. He does a great job centering the fourth line and playing on the wing. Personally, I believe the Rangers need a strong guy like Boyle on the fourth line. I think although he isn’t a big goal scorer he contributes to the team in other ways necessary, such as his role on the penalty kill and going to the net when needed.
